Chalky Pastels

Undoubtedly, the most popular pastel trend of the year is the look of chalky pastels. Chalky pastels are created by stuffing vibrant colors inside Qualatex white latex. Using double-stuffing, these balloons take on a matte appearance that creates a unique look, similar to chalk on a blackboard.

A gorgeous example of chalky pastel colors in action is Sarah Courtney’s arch featured below, which has gotten thousands of likes on Instagram.

One of Sarah’s favorite color combos is pastel pink and custom burgundy, featured below. “We did this for the first time about two years ago for a client of ours, and since then we have seen this combo reproduced thousands of times,” said Sarah. “The key for this combo is the double-stuffed soft pink though; it really doesn’t work as well with standard pink.”

Other combinations Sarah suggests? “You can’t go wrong with pastel pink (white over pink) and pastel lime (white over lime),” she gushed. This combination offers a soft, unique impression, as shown in her work below.

Warm Pastels

White isn’t the only player in the custom pastel color game. “I really like stuffing into Ivory Silk,” said Tina Giunta. “The colour result is soft and warm compared to stuffing into White.” The warmth she describes can be clearly seen in her centerpiece below.

According to Tina, pastel lilac is the most difficult custom pastel to achieve. Through trial and error, she has concluded that the most beautiful pastel lilac is created by stuffing pale blue inside pink. “Adding a grey inside pale blue before stuffing it into pink gives it more depth,” she advised.
